Fractured Time Series
Vortex Series
Vortex Series
Dimensions: 19 x 18 x 14”
Blown and hot-sculpted Chalcedony glass. After spending many years melting an ancient Italian glass formula famously known as Chalcedony, this formula has a complicated timing process that can produce a myriad of color reactions and layered effects through precise heating and cooling.
This handblown glass vessel rests within a spiraling amber vortex. The large, flattened form with a mysterious window appears to be collapsing but suspended in time. The striated Chalcedony colors reflect earthy rainbow hues of blue, amber, yellow, and purple.
As part of the Vortex Series, this glass form evokes abstract themes of time and movement, like a contorted twist in the fabric of space-time. Hot glass is shaped through timing and gravity, and here a vortex-like motion wraps around the vessel, with gravity influencing its flow much like ocean currents moving objects along curved paths through water.
*This piece was selected by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship out of Geneva to exhibit in the Homo Faber 2026 Biennial: An Island of Light. It is currently still available for sale, and will be returning in November.

Blown and sculpted Opaline glass. This hand-blown and sculpted spiraling form represents the flow of time (which are nicknamed TimeLines), and the vessel is loosely reminiscent of a sea form. A spiral twist (vortex) wraps around the outside of each vessel like a tentacle.

Handblown in aqua colored glass, this vessel is encircled by a spiraling opaline peach vortex. Beveled and polished ends create small windows into the glass. Resting horizontally, the form suggests a quiet state of balanced repose. A spiral twist wraps around the outside the vessel creating a tension within the bulging vessel and the vortex timeline constraining it.

This yellow and blue hand-blown spiraling shape symbolizes the pursuit of sovereignty for Ukraine. The twisting form represents the flow of time- while the wrapped vessel is blown into the twist and cut open, evoking the organic form of a conch shell from the sea. A spiral twist, or vortex, wraps around the exterior of each vessel like a tentacle.

Blown and hot-sculpted opaline glass with 24k gold on a lapis blue ball. The spiraling forms represent the flow of time (which are nicknamed TimeLines), and the vessel is loosely reminiscent of a sea form. A spiral twist wraps around the outside of each vessel like a tentacle. Each piece is completely unique in shape and color, like a shell no two are the same.

As part of the Guardian Odyssey Series, this piece is loosely based on an Egyptian funerary boat- however, in this piece the glass figure represents precious life wrapped in gold, transforming to the higher self. The serpent head represents the earth and our physical manifestation; the bird head represents the higher self- essentially our tie to the heavens by our metaphysical identity. The crossed markings on the boat represent souls, and some of the other markings are like a hieroglyphic language.

Blown, hot-sculpted, and flame-worked glass with 24k gold leaf. On the Backs of Bees, strives to illustrate the delicate balance between humanity and nature. A plate of fruit is held up on the backs of golden bees, representing the ambassadors of all pollinators. The transparent hive protects and reveals the fruit on the plate, topped by a human hand with its fingers morphing into golden bees. The piece captures the reciprocity that is vital to the survival of the planet. My hope is that this line of work will inspire people to seek out better ways of sustaining our planet and all its inhabitants, starting with our pollinators.

In my newest Fractured Time series, I abruptly sever the sense of flow created through these abstract sculptures. I became aware that my sense of time was shifting, slowing down, and changing daily; a feeling that I believe was shared by many around the world. My spiraling forms represent the flow of time with a central opening that is severed and off-set, much as I felt my perception was during a period of prolonged isolation during the pandemic.
