Al Leedom
Al Leedom’s art journey began in a Swarthmore, Pennsylvania high school. His art teacher passed on their enthusiasm to create and introduced Al to clay. He then pursued ceramics for the next fifteen years. Al studied every technique he could by attending Prescott College in Arizona, University of Wisconsin—Madison, and Alfred University in New York. In 1979, Madrid, New Mexico became home and became the perfect place to build a clay studio. Leedom eventually began assisting glass-artist Peter VanderLaan, and the rest is history. The clay studio became a hot glass shop and gallery for the next 20 years.
After returning to Santa Fe from a 4-year hiatus, Elodie Holmes enthusiastically invited Al to come and join her team at Liquid Light Glass in 2010. (They had been fishing buddies for decades!) Besides creating with hot glass, Al is a “cold-worker” extraordinaire- he cuts and polishes glass with perfection. Al is the studio’s funniest instructor as well as the crossword puzzle and trivia champion.
