Cia Thorne
Cia Thorne is an accomplished glass sculptor whose work appears in galleries nationwide. She attended California College of the Arts and has trained with glass masters Pino Signoretto and Martin Janecky. Thorne currently shows her work and teaches classes at Liquid Light Glass.
Blox Series
The Building Blox series has grown out an experimental dissection of a glass sea shell. I started this work by creating forms, cutting them up into sections, and following the most interesting visual developments from reassembling all of the parts. A deconstruction and reconstruction of elements. Almost instinctively when I started dissecting and reassembling while developing this series, I was filled with inspiration from the architecture in Mexico City. A visit to this beautiful city in November 2019 was filled with museums and of avant-garde architecture- like the highly complex organic shape of Museo Soumaya. When I cut a hand blown glass shell in half, the two sides became a fibonacci-esq ammonite shape. Through layering colors, unwinding the curl, and stacking the forms while hot and moving, this series began. I am excited to continue exploring the development of this series.
