Some Things God Doesn't Want You to Know

$810.00

Cyn Kirk

Dimensions: 7 × 2 x 5”

Blown and Carved Glass. The glass is blown with a layer of opaque white on the surface. Once cooled, the white surface is drawn on and then carved with a diamond point bit,  revealing the color under the white surface. Carving partially through the glass reveals different tones between the opaque white surface and the red colored glass underneath. Once carving is complete the glass is taken to the hot shop where it is fire polished to bring back a glassy finish to the carved sections.

Cyn says about this piece, “When I was a child, about 6, I remember hearing that worms had multiple hearts. There was a rumor around that you could cut them in half and they would  become two worms not harmed at all. Me and some classmates cut earth worms in half thinking they would continue to live and multiply. I was later haunted by the truth, learning the worms didn't live and it broke my heart. The multiplying worms carved onto this vessel represent the   loss of childhood innocence and a longing for a world where worms cut in half keep living.”

Photos show 3 sides of the same piece.
